比尔查拉普主导的纽约三重奏，从2001年在Venus首度发片以来，一直维持著每年一片的频率，而在2008年的新作也就是他们第七张作品，比尔查拉普选择的是向有「歌曲之王」之称的艾文柏林致敬。
艾文柏林於1888年出生於俄罗斯，随著父母移民美国。在父亲病逝后，艾文柏林靠各种零工养家，其中之一就是在唐人街的小酒馆唱歌。在酒馆老闆要求下，艾文柏林写下第一首歌曲的词，赚得第一笔歌曲收入：37美分。艾文柏林初期只写歌词，在某次为了将歌词顺利卖出，他被逼得只好亲自写曲。艾文柏林可无师自通的演奏钢琴，但是他并不懂得乐谱。他终身的写作都是与音乐家合作才得以完成。
在1962年引退之前，艾文柏林创作的歌曲超过三千首，而最家喻户晓的作品当然是由平克劳斯贝唱红的「白色圣诞」，此曲也替他带来一座奥斯卡最佳电影歌曲奖座。另外，美国国歌「天佑亚美利坚」也是出自他的手笔。另外一位杰出歌曲作者杰若米肯恩在被问到艾文柏林对美国音乐的影响时回答：「艾文柏林就是美国音乐」。艾文柏林引退后过著近乎隐居的生活，在1989年於纽约过世，享年101岁。
本张专辑收录的几乎就是艾文柏林最让爵士乐迷们熟悉的作品，包括了「Always」、「Cheek To Cheek」、「They Say It's Wonderful」、「How Deep Is The Ocean」、「Change Partners」、「Isn't ThisA Lovely Day」等等。其中标题曲「Always」选择别有深意，艾文柏林与第二任妻子艾琳结婚时，岳父因为宗教问题而宣佈与女儿断绝关係，当时保守的社会对此婚姻也不看好，但是艾文柏林将此曲的版税指名给艾琳，让她这辈子在经济上永无后顾之忧。
比尔查拉普与杰里昂哈特、比尔史都华组成的三重奏历经多次合作，默契早已不是问题，演奏这些经典歌曲自然驾轻就熟。终曲「Russian Lullaby」比尔查拉普更选择由自己独奏上阵，精湛的技巧搭配优美的曲调，让聆听者有一个畅快淋漓的完美结束。录音在纽约著名的柯林顿录音室进行，音效自然优美，解析度奇高，精彩程度足可做为音响示范。

The New York Trio, led by pianist Bill Charlap with bassist Jay Leonhart and drummer Bill Stewart, exists exclusively as a band to record for the Japanese jazz market, as Charlap has a regular trio with Peter Washington and Kenny Washington, while both Leonhart and Stewart are busy session musicians who occasionally also lead their own record dates. These 2007 sessions focus exclusively on the extensive songbook of the prolific Irving Berlin. Most of the ten tunes heard on this CD have long since become standards and are frequently recorded by jazz artists. One that isn't typically heard as an instrumental is "I Got the Sun in the Morning" (from the musical Annie Get Your Gun), heard in a loping yet infectious interpretation. "How Deep Is the Ocean" is one of Berlin's most recorded songs, yet this version sizzles with energy, unlike the typical ballad treatments. Other highlights include the breezy, joyful setting of "Cheek to Cheek," with Stewart's whispering brushes propelling Charlap's buoyant piano, along with the bittersweet "What'll I Do," featuring Leonhart's intimate solo. Even though this isn't a working band, things seem to gel quickly for The New York Trio when the group assembles to record.

Does any jazz musician alive today (be it player or singer) share more devotedly and mine with deeper conviction that widely-vaunted but too-often- dismissed-with-lip-service Great American Songbook than pianist Bill Charlap? This child of songwriter Moose and chanteuse Sandy Stewart was lovingly reared on the Tin Pan Alley and Broadway classics he so meticulously reimagines (usually romantically, occasionally puckishly, always honestly) on album after album. Thus Charlap's been recording beauty upon beauty with singular focus and unfailing swingability—abetted by terrific teammates—for a baker's dozen years; his '90s Criss Cross trio dates were goodie-laden grab-bags; Blue Note continued that tradition with Written In The Stars (gems by Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, et al.), before producer Joel Moss wisely let him dedicate entire albums to individual composer/craftsmen of the golden age of popular song such as Hoagy Carmichael (Stardust), Los Hermanos Gershwin (The American Soul) and Lenny Bernstein (Somewhere).
Emphatically not a guy to be deterred from artistic completion by the wrys and fawns of the big bad music business, the modest, super-musical Charlap keeps the flame bright here with two new volumes from Venus in Japan, unerringly well-crafted albums devoted to theme and variation on the collected songs of Richard Rodgers (Thou Swell) and Irving Berlin (Always). With him now are bassist Jay Leonhart, himself an able singer and vocal interpreter, and drummer Bill Stewart, a happy collaborator reunited from the Criss Cross dates.
As ever, Charlap handpicks several less-than-obvious diamonds-in-the-rough. Sensitive singers will hear some of these and intone, "Gimme that leadsheet!" Charlap's tender treatment of the Rodgers love song I'd not heard since the inimitable Mabel Mercer stunningly retold it in 1977 at Boston's Merry-Go-Round Room, "That's For Me," brought me willies of wonderment, tears of recognition. Then he turns smartly around and briskly charms the pants off "Have You Met Miss Jones?" (Leonhart plucking firmly and Stewart whisking flies) as he balances the genteel mezzo-piano delicacy of Hank Jones with the brusque pungency of Andre Previn's trio with Red Mitchell and Shelly Manne with a bell-clear resonance at any tempo that's all his own. They revert to spacious legato on "There's A Small Hotel" (Stewart's brushes churn cream into butter.) And they end with a breathtaker on the endearing waltz "Wait Til You See Her". It gets better yet, if possible, on Always. Charlap's Irving Berlin set floats like a butterfly, or rather Fred Astaire's ineffable step, pinpoint turns in place. There haven't been so many of these unusually structured Berlins on a single since Fred crooned them with Oscar Peterson and Charlie Shavers in 1952: "Cheek to Cheek," "Change Partners," "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" That dancing, airy feeling pervades every track; it's like a suite to rooftop Manhattan lounges, where this trio could be the house band for eternity. Aah, pacing! Aah, cityscape!

Ryan Farish is an American Electronic Artist, Producer, Grammy nominated songwriter, and DJ. Ryan Farish first launched his music career, on the first generation MP3.com (2000). It was at this site where he received more than 1.8 million downloads, of his Electronic music, and then earned the title "Download King" from L.A.-based music industry magazine, Music Connection. In 2008, he garnered a Grammy nomination, as well as a Dove Award as a hit songwriter. Farish's music has been featured on every major television network, Major motion picture houses, and even recently branded one of the world’s most established and elegant brands, Audi in the Remarkable Audi series, a video series which Farish also stars in as well as a video with Bang & Olufsen featured in B+O stores worldwide. 担任许多卡通(如美少女战士、勇者斗恶龙)等的配音工作
在1998年出道，刚开始都是与父亲一起合作发行了3张的专辑
直到2005年才正式单飞推出个人专辑Like a lover兼职情人

这一张相见恨晚专辑其实翻唱了很多30.40年代的浪漫情歌

Born in Toronto to parents who were both professional musicians, Emilie-Claire was encouraged to sing and study several instruments, including piano, cello, clarinet and violin. Emilie-Claire names Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder amongst her greatest musical influences.
Since 1998 Emilie-Claire has released nine discs. Known for her masterful interpretations of 1930s and ‘40s gems from the Great American Songbook, as well as a jazzy take on 1960s pop with the release of her 2010 CD The Beat Goes On, Emilie-Claire won a 2013 JUNO in the Vocal Jazz category for Seul ce soir (Alone Tonight). Her ninth album – the first one solely ‘en français’– contains new arrangements of songs she's recorded previously, and six completely new covers, including "Petit matin" by Sylvain Lelièvre, "Croissants de soleil" by Ginette Reno and "La belle dame sans regret" by Sting. Emilie-Claire says that an all-French album gave her “an opportunity to immerse myself a little deeper in the music and the [beauty of the] language…regardless of the language, the tone of many of these songs really reflected where I am in my life right now, so it seemed very natural” (CBC Music blog post).
ECB’s tenth album, “Live in Tokyo,” will be available this April. It was recorded at the elegant Cotton Club in the city’s Marunouchi business district.

莎拉原本是教堂唱诗班的成员，在阿波罗剧院的歌唱大赛拿到大奖后进入就是乐坛。1943年她加入了厄尔·海因斯的乐队，一年后与比利·艾克斯坦灌注了第一张唱片，很快便成为当时的首席歌手。她的声音可以诠释任何类型的音乐，让流行歌曲和小号、钢琴、鼓和贝司一起摇滚，翻唱出了最时髦的波普音乐。

　　Venus Records是一家来自日本的爵士唱片公司，标榜“赋予爵士新生活方式”，出版的唱片屡获日本权威爵士杂志Swing Journal金唱片大赏，而且在国内外都获得了不起的商业成功。不同于本土性的日本唱片公司，Venus Records旗下的艺人多为美国实力派爵士乐手，兼容各种风格流派，并且多半是请乐手在美国完成演出和录音。这种做法使得之前诸如Denon、JVC、TBM等日本爵士乐唱片公司发行的唱片常被批评为和风较浓、国际视野不足等问题都迎刃而解。再者，Venus Records非常重视录音质量，专辑都是在美国顶尖录音室如纽约著名的Avatar Studio与The Studio进行录制，之后在东京的录音室中将母带经过24比特“Hyper Magnum Sound”方式重新混音，获得更干净的背景与精致富动态的音质。

　　史帝夫.库恩（Steve Kuhn）生于1938年，5岁学钢琴，13岁正式演出。21岁他从哈佛大学毕业，后与Kenny Dorham，John Coltrane，Stan Getz等合作，并磨练技艺。六十年代中期他在欧洲大陆四处表演录音，1971年回美国并开始为ECM录制独奏或领奏，同期与Sheila Jordan合作。
　　
　　史帝夫.库恩出身美国东岸，曾受教于上低音萨克斯风手Serge Chaloff的母亲，担任钢琴教师的Chaloff夫人。在McCoy Tyner加入之前，擅长演奏调式爵士（Modal Jazz）风格的史帝夫.库恩曾经担任John Coltrane四重奏的钢琴手，也是这个乐团唯一的白人乐手。史帝夫.库恩早年曾为Kenny Dorham、Art Farmer、Stan Getz等人效命，以演奏精纯咆勃风格的爵士乐为主。七十年代以后，史帝夫.库恩为ECM录制了不少代表性作品，在这些专辑中他尝试演奏电子琴，将古典和即兴音乐于一炉。

TEMPTATION is an eight-track jazz release by the Steve Kuhn Trio, featuring "Temptation," "Dark Eyes," and "Django."
Steve Kuhn mixes standards and forgotten gems in these 2001 studio sessions with bassist Buster Williams and drummer Billy Drummond. Beginning with a tantalizing take of "Temptation" that has a slight Latin undercurrent, Kuhn finds new directions in these timeless pieces. "Dark Eyes" is another gem that has long fallen out of favor, though Kuhn's intricate workout demonstrates that there is plenty of life left in this decades-old warhorse. His treatment of Michel Legrand's "The Summer Knows" (written as theme music for the early-'70s film Summer of '42) is a bit jagged rather than the usual setting as a straight, slow, bittersweet ballad. John Lewis' "Django" has long been a favorite of jazz musicians, and the trio's elegant setting opens with an imaginative improvisation, slowly working into its well-known theme. Kuhn's sole original, "A Likely Story," is a driving post-bop vehicle that never runs out of steam. It's hard to go wrong by purchasing any Steve Kuhn CD, and this is among his best dates. ~ Ken Dryden

Some things change, other things stay the same. Marcus Miller—producer and performer with everyone from soul singer Luther Vandross and pianist Herbie Hancock to guitarist George Benson and Miles Davis, composing and producing the trumpeter's late period classic Tutu (Warner Bros., 1986)—has been releasing solo albums since 1983, but it was with The Sun Don't Lie (PRA, 1993) and Tales (PRA, 1994) that the bassist/bass clarinetist established a modus operandi that has served him well in the ensuing decades. Renaissance fits comfortably within Miller's overall discography, with plenty of the cornerstones upon which he's built his audience, but there are some differences as well...and, in this case, that's a very good thing.
As undeniably talented a player as he is—hundreds, if not thousands of recording sessions as a sideman can't be wrong—Miller's penchant for making overly bass-heavy albums has, to some extent, begun to render his own records a little too predictable. Still, his records are always profoundly deep in the groove department, with Miller quite possibly the funkiest bassist to emerge from the Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius camps of the 1970s. There's still plenty of groove on Renaissance, and still plenty of room for Miller's irrepressible virtuosity, but the writing is broader, the arrangements more instrumentally balanced and, even though there are a few guests, he's largely working with a stable core group that includes keyboardist Federico Gonzales Peña and saxophonist Alex Han, both of whom appeared on Miller's recent A Night In Monte Carlo and the also-live Tutu Revisited, both released in 2011 on the Dreyfus imprint.
Guitarist Adam Rogers, appearing on half the album, and singer Gretchen Parlato, who contributes wordless vocals alongside Ruben Blades on the lovely Brazilian-informed ballad "Setembro (Brazilian Wedding Song)"—one of six covers that also includes an impressive and moving a cappella closer by Miller, the Jackson Five hit, "I'll Be There," paying tribute to the late Michael Jackson—are surprise participants, but suggest that Miller's far more attuned to what's going beyond his usual circles than might be expected. And that's also a very good thing.
It's a more diverse program than usual that, amongst its seven Miller originals, includes the dark ballad, "Gorée (Go-ray)," a gorgeous feature for his bass clarinet work that kicks into double time for a more dramatic climax, and "Cee-Tee-Eye," Miller's visceral tribute to producer Creed Taylor's influential CTI label of the 1960s and '70s. Elsewhere, a lengthy look at WAR's hit, "Slippin' Into Darkness" is equally booty-shaking, with strong solos from guest pianist Kris Bowers and Cleveland trumpeter Sean Jones (one of the set's most impressive) before opening up for one of Miller's staggering, lightning fast but always in-the-pocket features.
For those who've always appreciated Miller's multifaceted talents but have grown a little tired of the sameness of his recent solo recordings, Renaissance is a refreshing reminder that he's as good a writer, a bassist and a producer as ever and, in a career now in its fourth decade and with a little better balance across the board, is still capable of making compelling music that's as good as—or, in this case, even better than—either of those seminal mid-'90s PRA dates.

Marcus Miller's career as a sideman, composer, and producer in jazz, R&B, and pop has been prolific. He's continuously pushed boundaries in order to blur and integrate genres. Renaissance is his first studio recording in five years (Free was released in 2007 in Europe and Japan, then re-released in the United States as Marcus in 2008). Renaissance's title reflects the idea that music needs a rebirth to keep up with the creative possibilities afforded by technology, and to reflect the ever-shifting, politically charged cultural landscape. The manner in which he posits this is anything but theoretical, however. Renaissance may be the most emotive offering in Miller's catalog. Groove and firepower are near constants here. Jazz-funk, R&B, rock, post-bop, club-jazz, and more come together in a wide-ranging collection that is deeply focused and expertly sequenced. Using a revolving cast whose core is alto saxophonist Alex Han, guitarist Adam Agati, and keyboardist Federico Gonzalez Peña, guests include trumpeters Maurice Brown and Sean Jones, organist Bobby Sparks, and more. Things get off to a skittering start on "Detroit," with Miller's bass riding heard over a knotty jazz-funk groove. Louis Cato's drums accent breaks in key sections, the souled-out horns highlight the choruses, and Agati's guitar nastily accents it all while Han's alto solo is a monster. The cover of "Slipping Into Darkness" melds Kris Bowers' piano and Sparks' organ with hand percussion, both trumpets, and Miller's funky reggae groove. The melody accents syncopation on the backbeat before weaving Bob Marley's and Peter Tosh's "Get Up, Stand Up" in as a logical yet surprising extension. Bowers' knotty piano solo illustrates the wide possibilities for jazz improvisation. "Jekyll & Hyde" combines alternate passages of elegant, soulful contemporary jazz with riff-driven rock as Agati and Miller complement and push one another. "Revelation" is a rumbling modal jam with funky highlights and fine soloing by Han. "Gorée (Go-ray)," with Miller on bass clarinet, is a lilting, post-bop ballad with lovely melodic interplay; it was inspired by his visit to the House of Slaves on Gorée Island, his feelings standing inside and reflecting on the horror of the slave experience. It's emotional quality contains numerous dimensions. It is a meditation on how the ends of the lives of these slaves as they knew them also birthed of the African-American experience, one of continued struggle that culturally evolved and transfromed into diverse musical forms that bore witness to tragedy but also triumph as the art created from this history has brought joy and meaning to individuals and societies across globe. Its tenderness and equanimity tells the whole story. "Cee-Tee-Eye," while a thoroughly contemporary jazz tune, pays excellent tribute to the inspiration of Creed Taylor's label. The set closer, a simple reading of "I'll Be There," showcases the bassist's gift for lyricism and understatement. Renaissance is a lofty title, but the inspired performances Miller puts on offer get very close to delivering on the ambition it promises.

After being blown away by Richard Marx's great acoustic show back in late 2010, I've been looking forward to new material from him. "Inside My Head" is just what I hoped it would be, a new rock-oriented album with plenty of fine melodies. Okay, it might not be all new, as most of these songs were released on Marx' "Emotional Remains" and "Sundown" albums, but as far as I know, they were only digitally available for a limited time from his site. So, basically these are new songs to me and most of you I guess.
After the first spin, I thought this album sounded "nice", but I wasn't overtly impressed by it. After more spins, it has started to show its' true colours. "Nice" doesn't begin to describe it anymore.
Richard Marx is usually associated with ballads and emotional, melodic songs. Sure enough, you'll get those on this album, but you'll also hear him rock out seriously. "All Over Me" is an almost punky rock track and possibly the hardest rocking Marx song of all time. The AOR bliss of "Part Of Me" was earlier covered by Harry Hess with his First Signal project, and the opening duo of "Had Enough" and "Wouldn't Let Me Love You" should please any melodic rock fan. Another standout track is "Through My Veins", a truly moving ballad he wrote about his late father.
A few weaker tracks on the second half of the album bring down the rating a bit, but all in all, a very good album and a welcome return. Now, how about a full-band tour and a gig in Finland?

- 5 songs (Through My Veins, Come Running, Done To Me, Over My Head and Part Of Me) are taken from the 'Emotional Remains' album
- 2 songs (Always On Your Mind and Loved) are taken from the 'Sundown' album
- 2 songs (Had Enough and On The Inside) were included as extra tracks on the UK release of 'Stories to Tell'
- The entire 2nd CD was included on the US release of 'Stories to Tell' which also included a live DVD of his London show at Shepherd's Bush Empire a couple of years back
